Can nurses perform laser hair removal in France?

Yes. Since decree no. 2024-470 of 24 May 2024, state-registered nurses can carry out non-therapeutic laser and intense pulsed light hair removal, provided they have completed the compulsory training and its regular updates. No delegation from a doctor is required for these procedures.

Must a foreign-owned centre in France comply with French law?

Yes. Any centre operating in France is subject to French law, whatever the nationality of its managers or the origin of its equipment: practitioners' qualifications and training, written client information, respect for contraindications and reporting of serious incidents.

Is pulsed light as effective as the laser?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) emits a broad light spectrum, less selective than a laser beam. It can reduce hair growth, but it is generally less effective than the laser and less suitable for olive or dark skin. Whatever the technique, white, red or very fair hair responds poorly.

What should I do if there is a complication after laser hair removal?

See a doctor quickly to have the injury examined and treated. The professional who carried out the session is required to report serious incidents. A report can be made to the French consumer protection authority (DGCCRF, via SignalConso), and civil liability action is possible. If the procedure was carried out by an unqualified or untrained person, it may constitute the illegal practice of medicine.
